From the book….
The Good News Jail Ministry was an excellent opportunity for me to get out and share my faith with inmates. The Good News Jail Ministry served the Harford County Detention Center located close to my home in Edgewood.
Bob Thomas, a large and burly man with a very charismatic personality, introduced me to the jail ministry. Bob served as my mentor in the jail ministry. He had compassion for the men we shared the gospel message with and was a great example to me.
I often thought gospel tracts were inadequate and corny. Why would I want to share any of these tracts with inmates? However, Bob proved me wrong when he handed me the short and to-the-point little tract titled “He Took My Whipping for Me.”11
I said to Bob after reading the tract, “This is what Jesus did for me; He took my whipping.” I will never forget when sharing my story of what Christ has done for me, He took my whipping and rescued me.
I was still searching for any opportunity to move into a role as a full-time minister of the Gospel. Seemed God had other plans for me for now.
